If you checked out my last post (6 Tips to Get the Most out of attending a Marketing Conference) then you knew this video was coming! I recently attended Digital Summit in Portland. It’s a digital marketing conference that offers TONS of presentations from industry leaders who are happy to share their experience and insight with fellow marketers.
It was a lot of fun and I thought almost every talk I attended was worth my time and valuable. Since I got a lot of out of it, I wanted to share my top three takeaways with you!

I highly suggest checking out the video above but if you’re in a rush and don’t have the time, I’m happy to give you a quick and dirty short list.
3 Takeaways (for those in a hurry)
Voice Activated Devices and the IoT is taking over! Audio marketing is incredibly powerful and with the growing use of voice activated devices and voice integration, audio will become more and more critical to creating fantastic experiences for people. Think about how your brand and company can reach people through the power of voice!
Market to humans, not to robots! The practice of keyword stuffing is outdated. Google and other search engines are much better at mimicking the way people actually interact with the internet so in order to optimize for search, optimize for PEOPLE!! (I got a Bachelor’s degree in psychology as an undergraduate, so this really makes me excited. I’ll continue to share insights about psychology with you on my blog so be sure to keep in touch!)
When thinking creatively, ditch the computer! When you are coming up with a new campaign or program, think about it first and foremost using your imagination. Sketch things out, use models, storyboard it… but do so away from your computer. Why? Because using a specific software or program can be limiting.
So that sums it up! I hope you found those takeaways useful! If you would like me to post about other insights from the conference, please let me know in the comments section.
